BROOKS – Two masked gunmen forced their way into a Hall Hill Road home late Wednesday and robbed the occupants of cash and prescription drugs.
The men shot out the tires of the homeowners’ sport utility vehicle as they made their getaway.
Waldo County Chief Deputy Robert Keating said the robbery took place shortly before midnight Wednesday.
After cutting the outside phone line, two men burst into the house and ordered the occupants to gather in the living room.
The men were described as wearing jumpsuits and ski masks and armed with handguns.
A 58-year-old man, his wife, whose age was not reported, their 20-year-old daughter and her 1-year-old infant were home at the time.
While one intruder held the family members at gunpoint and ordered them “to sit down and not move,” the other entered the couple’s bedroom and took the man’s supply of OxyContin and Percocet pain medicine.
The robbers also took the man’s wallet, which contained an undisclosed amount of cash, Keating said.
After shooting out two tires on the man’s Jeep, the two men fled.
After discovering that their phone was disabled, the 20-year-old ran to a neighbor’s house to report the robbery.
Sgt. Mark Shade, Deputy Michael Dudley and Maine State Police Trooper Steve Hills responded to the call and interviewed the victims. Hills and his dog Ruger picked up the robbers’ track and followed it to the edge of the road, where officers surmise they left in a waiting vehicle.
Waldo County Detective Jason Trundy was conducting the investigation Thursday.
