Whether on record or on stage at the local watering hole, Green & Bosse play American roots music that rawks. With Eric Green on slide guitar, pedal steel and vocals and Paul J. Bosse on drums, the duo pounds out a scorching combination of gut-wrenching, blues-influenced originals and covers ranging from Johnny Cash to Mississippi Fred McDowel to Maine’s own Dick Curliss.

Green & Bosse will bring its self-described “supercharged” mix of Americana tonight to the Waterfront Bar & Grill in Bangor. The duo starts playing at 9:30 p.m.

Much like the current darling twosome of rock revival, The White Stripes, Green & Bosse successfully strip rock, blues, folk and country down to the gritty essentials, recombining and infusing them with new energy and urgency.

A Penobscot Nation member and current Frankfort resident, Eric Green has performed for 20 years, sharing stages with the likes of bluesmen John Hammond and Poppa Chubby. Green also spent some time living and performing in New Orleans, an experience he says “mutated” his playing style even more. True enough, this Big Easy influence can heard in the boozy, swampy of sound of both his voice and guitar, recalling the best (and grittiest) blues the Delta has to offer.

When not playing with Bosse, you can catch Green playing regular gigs both solo and with his more funkified group, Wicked Mack Duo, in Bangor and Belfast.

Drummer-percussionist Paul J. Bosse has been a staple figure on the local live music scene since his teens, both as a performer and a supporter. In 1995, Bosse founded his own independent record label, Angry Rodent Records, and has released nearly two dozen CDs of various Maine artists (including those by himself and Green). As a solo performer, Bosse excels in experimental percussion and performance art with found objects. But his work with Green showcases his taut, thunderous skills behind the traditional drum kit. Formerly a Milford resident, Bosse recently moved to the Portland area but continues to perform solo and with various groups and ensembles throughout the state.
