Trenkle, Nickerson power Polar Bears

BRUNSWICK- Lora Trenkle tallied 18 points as the Bowdoin College women’s basketball team trounced Trinity 95-34 Friday in college action.

Erika Nickerson notched 13 points for the Polar Bears. Vanessa Russell scored 12 and Eileen Flaherty 10, respectively.

Leigh Melanson’s 10 led Trinity.

At Presque Isle, Chris Havens scored 18 points and Patrick Depsey added 16 in Central Maine Community College’s victory over Northern Maine CC.

Josh Chaplin and Chris Davis both scored 15 more for the winners. Pete Callahan made 13 and Josh Bernard had 10.

Craig Durost led the Falcons with 19 points. Corey Shield followed with 14 and Robbi Hill scored 12.

John Donovan headed a list of five Amherst double-figure scorers with 13 points.

Hockey

Boston College 5, BU 1

BOSTON – Adam Pineault scored two goals as Boston College beat crosstown rival Boston University 5-1.

Ken Magowan gave Boston U. (6-7-6, 3-6-2 Hockey East) a 1-0 lead with five seconds left in the first period.

But Boston College (15-3-3, 8-1-2), on its home ice, responded with three goals in the second period and two more in the third to pull away for the win.

Chris Collins scored 36 seconds into the second period to tie the game and Ned Havern added a goal less than a minute later. Stephen Gionta added a power-play goal at 3:44, putting the Eagles ahead 3-1.

Pineault scored twice in the third for BC.
