BREWER – A man who allegedly held up an adult video store with a handgun Sunday afternoon was found and arrested in Lincoln later that evening.
Jason Fleming, 25, of Chester was taken to Penobscot County Jail where he was charged with Class A robbery. Fleming will be arraigned on Tuesday if he cannot post bail, which was set at $900.
According to a statement released by the Brewer Police Department Sunday night, Fleming entered Pandora’s Boxxx on South Main Street in Brewer at about 1:30 p.m. and demanded money from one of the clerks.
Two clerks from the adult video store said Fleming was wearing a ski mask and was armed with a handgun. When one of the clerks reached for the phone to dial 911, Fleming got nervous and fled the store without any money, Brewer police said. No other patrons were in the store at the time of the attempted robbery.
Video surveillance cameras from Pandora’s Boxxx captured an image of the suspect as well as the vehicle in which he fled the scene, the statement said.
Penobscot Regional Communication Center put out a statewide teletype to stop, hold and identify the operator of the vehicle.
With assistance from Trooper Thomas Fiske of the Maine State Police, Officer Richard York of the Lincoln Police Department and Deputy Sheriff Quinton Goodall from the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office, the suspect’s vehicle was located in Lincoln.
Detective Sgt. Jay Munson of the Brewer Police Department went to Lincoln to question Fleming, who was placed under arrest. The handgun, which had been reported stolen by one of Fleming’s relatives in Lincoln, was found on Fleming’s person.
Fleming, who had no prior police record, also was charged with Class B burglary by Lincoln police for the theft of the handgun.
