Teen charged with shoplifting at mall

Bangor police responded to two separate calls of shoplifting at Filene’s on Friday. A female juvenile was charged with theft while another suspect was not apprehended.

Bangor Officer Brad Hanson arrived at Filene’s at about 4:20 p.m. to find mall security had taken a teenage girl into custody. The security employee told Hanson she witnessed the girl take a pair of earrings and put them into her pocketbook.

Hanson took the juvenile to the police station for processing, where she was very cooperative, according to the officer’s report. The girl’s parents were contacted, and she was released into their custody with a court date of Feb. 24 for theft charges. She was given a written criminal trespass warning for Filene’s.

About 31/2 hours later, Officer David Bushey answered a similar call. Upon his arrival, a mall security employee told Bushey that a surveillance video camera showed a male taking a pair of earrings from a box and leaving the store without paying for them.

The suspect was not apprehended, but another mall security employee said he saw a male fitting the description of the suspect leave the parking lot in a small, red vehicle.

A Hermon man was taken to Penobscot County Jail late Saturday night after an alleged fight at Barnaby’s at the Ramada Inn on Odlin Road.

Bangor police Officers Jason Ouellette and Donald Gagne were on detail at the Ramada when someone yelled to them that a fight was taking place at the bar, Gagne’s report said.

When the officers arrived, an employee was holding back one man, who told the officers that another man, identified as Shawn Tredwell, 26, of Hermon, had thrown a beer at him. Officer Gagne told Tredwell to step outside into an adjacent hallway.

Tredwell told Gagne that someone else had thrown a beer. The suspect twice refused to provide identification, Gagne’s report said. Gagne said Officer Ouellette approached Tredwell, who then swung a closed fist at Ouellette and extended his middle finger while shouting obscenities. Tredwell was forced to the ground and handcuffed, Gagne’s report said.

Tredwell was searched and the officers found a small pipe and a plastic bag containing marijuana. Officer Gagne ran Tredwell’s license, which was suspended for charges of operating under the influence. Officer Gagne released Tredwell from the handcuffs briefly so he could sign his credit card bill for the bar and then took him to Penobscot County Jail.
