Two women were seriously injured when an SUV struck them as they crossed the street in downtown Bangor on Monday morning.

Officer Jason Stuart reported that at about 7:30 a.m. Linda Dupuis, 50, of Plymouth and Debbie Cooper, 49, of Hartland were crossing Harlow Street at a crosswalk when a Toyota SUV driven by Nancy Dunlay, 55, of Bangor struck them and carried them 15 feet.

Stuart said Dunlay explained that the sun made it hard for her to see, and another vehicle had blocked her view as well. She said that she was traveling at 20 mph or less, but in snowy conditions she couldn’t stop when she saw the pedestrians.

Stuart said the Toyota’s skid mark started about 10 feet before the crosswalk and continued 15 feet. He said another mark was left where Dupuis was dragged along the ground.

Dupuis and Cooper both suffered multiple broken bones. They were listed in fair condition at Eastern Maine Medical Center on Monday night.

A Glenburn youth broke his leg after his truck left the road in Bangor late Monday morning.

Officer Jason Stuart reported that just before noon, Jordan Theriault, 16, of Glenburn was driving north on Kenduskeag Avenue when the 2003 Chevrolet pickup truck he was driving went off the road and hit a tree.

Stuart said Theriault suffered a broken leg and didn’t remember what had happened. His passenger, Samantha Beaulieu, 15, was found bleeding from an arm injury. She said she thought they were traveling at about 25 mph when Theriault “just lost control” of the truck on the snowy road.

Stuart said the damage to the truck, which was demolished, seemed to indicate that a higher speed was more likely. He said illegal unsafe speed and driver inexperience were probably factors in the crash.

Both Theriault and Beaulieu were wearing seat belts.

A Clinton woman and her three passengers were taken to the hospital after a collision in Hermon on Monday afternoon.

Deputy Steven Mallory of the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Department said shortly before 4:30 p.m. David Mahon of Carmel was traveling north on Route 2 in Hermon when a car in the oncoming lane turned in front of him, attempting to turn onto the Billings Road.

Mallory said Mahon’s car struck the other car in the side. The driver, Mallory Irving, 19, of Clinton, appeared unhurt, but at least one of her passengers was very seriously injured. Irving and her passengers, Brandy and Mandi Jean Sewall of Canaan and Travis Coffin of Bangor, were taken to area hospitals.

Deputy Mallory said Mahon and his passenger were treated at the scene and refused further treatment.

Mallory said that while it had been snowing, it did not appear to him that snow was a major factor in the accident.

Bangor police arrested a Brewer man for the Veazie police Monday, after the man allegedly refused to stop harassing his ex-girlfriend over the phone.

Officer Michael Adams reported that at about 11:30 a.m. a woman called police on behalf of her friend, whose ex-boyfriend Robert Dellairo, 22, of Brewer had called her several times that morning, leaving obscene messages.

Adams said that when Dellairo learned the police had been called, he began to threaten his ex-girlfriend over the phone. Adams asked the Brewer police to go and check Dellairo’s home, but they didn’t find him there.

Adams said he later received a call from Dellairo’s girlfriend, saying he was following her around Bangor in his car. She went to a Griffin Road address, she said, and Dellairo called from a gas station nearby, threatening her and himself.

Officer Adams called the Bangor police. Officer Randall Parsons arrested Dellairo at the gas station and brought him to Penobscot County Jail, where Adams met them and charged Dellairo with criminal threatening and terrorizing.
