CARMEL – Firefighters saved a mobile home in Carmel after a malfunctioning oven set the kitchen on fire Tuesday afternoon.
According to Carmel Fire Chief Joe Pelletier, a woman living in a mobile home park on Route 2 had set her oven to self-clean when something inside it caught fire. Pelletier said the fire started at about 5:15 p.m.
Firefighters were able to stop the fire before it spread beyond the kitchen and dining room. Hermon and Etna also sent crews to assist.
Typically, Pelletier said, a mobile home will be destroyed within 20 minutes.
“It was a good stop,” he said, adding that recent renovations in the home helped the firefighters because sheetrock replaced more flammable materials.
Pelletier said nobody was hurt, but the rest of the home did suffer smoke and heat damage.
