DENNYSVILLE – The Dennys River watershed management plan work group will hold its next meeting at 6 p.m. Monday, Feb. 2, at the EDM Youth Center in Dennysville.

The public is encouraged to attend and learn more about forestry trends in the watershed.

Joining the discussion will be Geneva Duncan from the Maine Forest Service.

Duncan will talk about forestland ownership, timber harvesting practices and how to work with landowners to avoid forestry-related pollution known as “nonpoint source pollution.”

Nonpoint source pollution is pollution that can’t be traced to a single definable source.

The work group has been focusing its efforts in remediating such sites associated with unpaved logging roads. Pollution problems associated with improperly constructed or maintained roads include erosion from ditches, shoulders, poorly installed or maintained culverts and road surfaces.

The project is funded by a grant from the Department of Environmental Protection. It is aimed at developing a watershed management plan for the Dennys River watershed.
