In the Bangor Daily News article, “Tape confirms Baldacci flip-flop on liquor” (BDN, Jan. 20), in regard to the Maine Public Broadcasting story of Gov. Baldacci saying the state would not lose money on the liquor deal; I was amazed at spokesman Lee Umphrey’s closing comment.
He indicated the state hopes liquor sales will be high to help gain revenue from sales. Isn’t this great. Mainers are now supposed to drink more liquor to help support the state. I bet the MADD crowd isn’t too happy with that statement. I bet the law enforcement agencies aren’t smiling either.
However, fellow Mainers, please “drink up,” and when you get addicted to alcohol, I’m sure the Dirigo Health Care system will pay all your bills; and if you get stopped for DWI, send your ticket to the state. After all, they insisted you buy liquor to support the budget. Enough is enough.
