Katahdin Paper selling nonessential equipment

MILLINOCKET – Katahdin Paper Co. recently began advertising online to liquidate much of its nonessential equipment from the Millinocket mill.

Advertised with Can-Am Machinery Inc., a Fitchburg, Mass., company that specializes in used pulp and paper equipment, the listing of items to be sold includes a coating machine, paper machines, equipment used in the screening process and loading and chipping equipment once used in the wood yard.

The liquidation doesn’t include the company’s No. 10 coating machine, its No. 11 paper machine or any of the associated equipment used to run either machine, according to Katahdin Paper spokesperson Glenn Saucier. The company is holding on to those two particular machines as they may be incorporated when the Millinocket facility restarts, Saucier said last week.

Saucier described the equipment as “salvage” because other paper companies may use different materials and equipment. He said any cash generated from sales would be put back into the company’s operational costs.
