Ice-fishing event set at Alamoosook Seminar, dinner scheduled Friday, Feb. 6

Ice fishing is one of those sports anglers learn the old-fashioned way: An older relative takes them along, teaches them the ropes, and then, later in life, they repeat the process with someone else.

For many who haven’t spent much time ice fishing, gaining that knowledge can be a problem.

It needn’t be.

On Friday, Feb. 6, an ice-fishing seminar and dinner is scheduled for the Alamoosook Lodge in Orland, and anglers of all experience levels can show up and learn some valuable tricks.

The seminar will feature Warden Calvin Hale, along with veteran anglers Alan Smith and Pete Douvarjo, and a lasagna dinner will be included in the $15 seminar fee. The program starts at 6, and reservations are required.

Hale will discuss ice safety issues and general state law, while Smith will discuss the finer points of catching a fish through the ice, with accompanying gear and instruction. Douvarjo will talk about proper cold weather clothing and one of the most important parts of any ice-fishing excursion: The food.

In addition, on Saturday, Feb. 7, a guided day of ice fishing for up to 12 people will be provided for those who want to stay overnight at the Alamoosook Lodge.

To make reservations to the seminar, or to book a spot at Alamoosook Lodge, call Gina Bushong at 469-6393, or 1-866-459-6393.
