TOPSHAM – Heavily favored Camden Hills of Rockport won six individual titles Saturday to cruise to victory in the Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference wrestling championships at Mount Ararat High School.
The four-time defending state Class B champion Windjammers finished with 211 points to easily defeat second-place Oxford Hills of South Paris, which finished with 123 points. Skowhegan placed third with 96 points, followed by Winslow (95), Belfast (74) and Mt. Blue of Farmington (60.5).
The title was Camden Hills’ seventh conference championship in the last eight years.
Three-time state champion Chris Remsen led the Windjammers to victory, winning the 145-pound division to earn his third KVAC title.
Camden Hills had 12 of its 14 wrestlers earn top-four finishes, including championship efforts from Remsen, Joe McGowan at 103 pounds, Jake Rollins (119), Pete Forst (152), Nathaniel Boehmer (171) and Bryan Creamer (189). Derek Young placed second at 112 pounds.
Dylan Wentworth of Skowhegan was named the meet’s outstanding wrestler. He outpointed David Gregory of Lincoln Academy in Newcastle 9-7 in the 130-pound championship match.
Belfast was led to its fifth-place finish by Kyle Bonin, who won the 112-pound championship, a second-place finish from Tony Gilmore (119), and thirds from Steve Joy (103) and Josh Mace (152).
Camden Hills will host the Eastern B regional next Saturday.
