Bangor police arrested a Dedham man after he allegedly damaged motel property Sunday night.
Officer Eric Tourtelotte reported that at about 9:40 p.m. he and officers Douglas Moore and Shawn Green went to Howard Johnson’s on Odlin Road, where staff had requested that an intoxicated man be removed from the premises.
Tourtelotte said motel staff complained that Christopher Hamilton, 37, of Dedham, had allegedly broken a dresser drawer in his room in the motel, and was sitting at the bar being rude and belligerent.
The officers found Hamilton drinking at the bar, and told him he had to leave. Dispatch informed them that Hamilton had bail conditions that forbade him to possess or consume alcohol. Tourtelotte said that after they escorted Hamilton back to his room and saw the damage to the drawer, Officer Moore arrested Hamilton.
Green and Tourtelotte searched the room. They found a small plastic bag containing marijuana, and a trash can filled with Budweiser and ice. Hamilton was taken to Penobscot County Jail and charged with violation of conditional release, criminal mischief and possession of a usable amount of marijuana.
Bangor police summoned a Vermont woman after she allegedly ran a red light early Monday.
Officer Shawn Green reported that just after midnight he saw a car traveling north on Main Street run a red light at the Cedar Street intersection. Green followed, and pulled the car over near Water Street.
Green said that as he spoke with the driver, Nicole Coppinger, 24, of Shaftsbury, Vt., he could smell burnt marijuana. He asked Coppinger to step out of the vehicle.
Green said he asked Coppinger how much she had smoked that night. She reportedly said, “You mean marijuana?” Coppinger then explained that a friend had been in the car smoking, and that she did not have any marijuana. Green said he searched Coppinger’s person and found a pipe and a small bag of marijuana in her coat pockets.
Green let Coppinger sit in his cruiser to stay warm, explaining that she was not under arrest. He then searched the car, but didn’t find any more contraband. Green said he summoned Coppinger for possession of a usable amount of marijuana and gave her a warning for the red light and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Police say a Greenbush man was lucky to escape serious injury after his truck hit a pine tree Sunday night.
According to Maine State Police Trooper David Millett, Jason Smith, 21, of Greenbush, was driving on Cardville Road in Greenbush at about 9:45 p.m. His truck left the road on a sharp turn, Millett said, and hit a pine tree head-on. The truck was totaled, Millett said, and Smith complained of some head pain because his face hit the steering wheel.
