Steam blocks sledder’s view, causing crash

TREMONT – A Tremont man was injured Saturday night in a snowmobile accident on Seal Cove Pond.

Stephen Butler, 44, was traveling on the pond just after dark with another snowmobiler when the accident occurred, according to Warden Calvin Hale.

Butler’s vision was blocked when the visor on his helmet steamed up, Hale said Monday. His sled struck an embankment and then ran into a tree.

Butler suffered a broken nose and facial cuts. He was taken to Mount Desert Island Hospital in Bar Harbor for treatment.
