YMCA Interact leaders
BANGOR – Katie Poirier, 17, of Bangor has been named YMCA Interact Leader of the Month. A senior at Bangor High School, Poirier is active in soccer, tennis and the school’s chamber choir She enjoys art and music and said a person she admires is her mother “for her strength and for teaching me many important lessons in life.”
A three-year member of the Interact Leaders Club, Poirier has participated in volunteer activities. She made decorative ornaments for the Bangor YMCA craft fair, and at Eastern Maine Medical Center’s pediatric unit, she helped children make holiday cards.
She also joined the Bangor Area Breakfast Rotary in delivering Christmas baskets to area families, and has participated in fund-raising efforts to benefit a local family in need.
Poirier plans to study neuroscience and behavior at Mount Holyoke College after she graduates from Bangor High School.
The Interact Leaders Club is a nine-month program at the Bangor YMCA for eighth- to 12th-graders who want to development leadership skills, presentation and career skills while serving the community through local and international service projects. Bangor High School

McGraw School
HAMPDEN – Kindergarten registration for children entering school for the 2004-2005 school year will be held 9:30 a.m.-2 p.m. Tuesday, March 16, at the McGraw School. Parents who are unable to attend may obtain registration forms at the school office 8 a.m.-2:30 p.m. daily.
Parents do not need to bring their child the day of registration, but should bring the child’s birth certificate, immunization records and a small photograph.
In order to register, children must be 5 years old on or before Oct. 15. Pupil screening and parent orientation will be scheduled at a later date.
Leonard Middle School
OLD TOWN – Seventh-graders from Leonard Middle School toured the Bangor Daily News on Jan. 22. Reporter Jeff Tuttle gave the tours, introducing the pupils to editors and reporters in the newsroom.

MARS HILL, N.C. – Stephen Cote of Bangor has been named to the honor roll of the academic dean for the fall semester at Mars Hill College.
