ABBOT – Debris around a wood-burning stove in the cellar of an Abbot log home caught fire Friday night and caused some damage.

The plumbing in the cellar of the 11/2-story home owned by Joe and Carolanne Dionne actually burned off and helped extinguish the fire by the time firefighters arrived, according to Mike Nichols, Guilford fire chief.

While firefighters were at the fire scene, Carolanne Dionne became ill and was taken by ambulance to Mayo Regional Hospital, Nichols said.

Monson firefighters assisted Guilford firefighters at the scene and Sangerville remained on standby at the Guilford station.
