Sonja Stanley of Milbridge has been selected to participate in the National Young Leaders Conference, which takes place Feb. 17-22 in Washington, D.C.

NYLC is a leadership development program for high school students who have demonstrated leadership potential and scholastic merit.

Stanley will be one of about 350 students participating from around the country. The theme of the conference is “The Leaders of Tomorrow Meeting the Leaders of Today.”

The students will interact with personnel from the three branches of the federal government, the news media and the international community.

The conference will end with a Model Congress debate, in which students will assume the roles of U.S. representatives, and debate, amend and vote on proposed mock legislation.
