Millinocket man indicted in robbery spree

BANGOR – A Millinocket man arrested in a series of burglaries last fall that netted more than $40,000 in cash was indicted Monday by the Penobscot County grand jury.

Jason Cummings, 20, was indicted on five counts of burglary, two counts of theft and one count of robbery.

In four of the burglaries of Millinocket homes, Cummings allegedly entered the residences when they were unoccupied and took only bankbooks and other financial documents.

The robbery he was indicted for occurred in October when he allegedly held a 62-year-old woman at knifepoint and handed her a note demanding her supply of OxyContin. He allegedly made off with 144 pills – worth several thousand dollars – and $400 in cash. The woman was unharmed.

A man who allegedly left his bloody and beaten companion lying in a ditch on New Year’s Eve was indicted Monday.

James “Butch” Boutilier, 41, of Brewer was indicted on charges of aggravated assault, assault and violation of condition of bail.

A motorist reported finding a woman lying in the ditch and that Boutilier was there trying to get the bleeding woman to her feet.

Boutilier told the man that the woman had jumped from his truck. When the motorist went to get a blanket, Boutilier drove off in his tractor-trailer. The motorist told police that Boutilier was treating the injured woman roughly and was not being cautious while moving her.

Boutilier claimed he had left the scene because he was under the influence of intoxicants and out on bail, with conditions from a November 2003 domestic assault charge that prohibited him from having any contact with the woman.

In March, he was sentenced to five days in jail for assault.

Boutilier remains in Penobscot County Jail unable to make bail.
