AUGUSTA – The Kineo Cottage Row District in Kineo Township has been named to the National Register of Historic Places, along with six other sites in the state, the Maine Historic Preservation Commission announced this week.

Each site on the register has been documented, evaluated and considered worthy of preservation and protection as part of the nation’s cultural heritage.

Properties in the state constantly are being evaluated throughout the year to determine their eligibility. Once a site has been listed in the national register, the property is deemed eligible for protection from the adverse impact of federal government projects and may receive grants to maintain the property.

The Kineo Cottage Row Historic District is a collection of seven wood-framed cottages built in conjunction with the Kineo Resort complex between 1901 and 1912.

These single-family summer cottages were proximately designed in the Queen Anne and Shingle style, with Colonial Revival and Craftsman elements.

Also named to the national register, the Col. Charles and Mary Ann Jarvis Homestead in Ellsworth, a late-Federal era residence, is associated with one of the most influential families in the area during the mid-19th century.

In addition, the Edward J. Hammond Hall in Winter Harbor has been added to the register. Built in 1903, the classically inspired hall hosted both governmental and social functions and reflected the town’s growth as a result of tourism at the end of the 19th century.

Other sites added to the register include:

. The Androscoggin Swinging Bridge over the Androscoggin River between Topsham and Brunswick.

. The Trufant Historic District in Bath.

. Steep Falls Library in Steep Falls.

. Intervale Farm in New Gloucester.
