The Internal Revenue Service announced improvements to its Web site, www.irs.gov, just in time for tax season.

1040 Central at the IRS Web site directs taxpayers to information regarding lower tax rates, larger child tax credits and the elimination of the “marriage penalty,” among other things.

The IRS e-file option is the quickest way for taxpayers to receive refunds and an estimated 238,000 Mainers will file their taxes online this year.
