FARMINGTON – The University of Maine-Farmington men’s basketball team beat Johnson State 87-66 Saturday, but lost to Castleton State 91-71 on Sunday in men’s basketball action.

On Sunday, John Galarneau scored 28 points to lead Castleton State.

Sean Manovill netted 13 points for Castleton while Bill Jones and Ray Daley each added 12.

Travis Magnusson of Thomaston scored 26 points for UMF. Luke Nielsen had 18 points and 13 rebounds. Bobby Deetjen had 12 points and five assists.

On Saturday, Steve Ginn scored 19 points to lift UMF past Johnson State. Magnusson netted 16 points for for the Beavers, while Deetjen had 13 points and Trafton Teague added 10.

Frank Ponte had 14 points and eight rebounds for Johnson State. Tim Santarcangelo scored 12 points and Billy Durbow had 10.

Thomas has .500 weekend

James Godley had 28 points and six assists to push Thomas College to a 101-86 win over Johnson State College at Mahaney Gymnasium in Waterville on Sunday.

Adam Rich netted 23 points for Thomas and Ryan Conrad had 14 rebounds.

Frank Ponte had 22 points and 12 boards for Johnson State and Billy Durbow scored 18 points. Tim Santarcangelo netted 12 points and Sean Sweeney added eight assists.

On Saturday, Joel Leitchnam poured in 24 points to lead Castleton State to an 83-75 win.

Sean Manovill chipped in with 15 for the winners and Ray Daley 11.

Rich sparked the Terriers with 24 points, including five 3-pointers, while David Percy had 22 points and 11 rebounds.

Clippers win two

At Machias, UMaine-Machias earned a pair of wins, beating Lyndon State 95-81 Saturday and the College of St. Joseph 86-72 Sunday.

On Saturday, David Hardy poured in 23 points and Wayne Clarke 21 for the victorious Clippers.

Jeremiah Johnson and Nedrie Simmons chipped in with 10 apiece.

On Sunday, Hardy tossed in 21 points and Clarke led the way with 25 for UM-Machias. Johnson added 11.

Silas Carnes netted 32 for the College of St. Joseph in Vermont.
