County school panel discusses budget, OKs contracts

DYER BROOK – Southern Aroostook Community School District members discussed the school budget and approved teachers’ contracts during their Monday night meeting.

The committee was given an update on the budget, which Superintendent Terry Comeau described as tentative.

“We basically just talked about the process,” Comeau said Tuesday. “We don’t have any final figures available at this time.”

The committee voted to extend administrative contracts for all teachers for one year, ending June 30, 2006. Salaries will be negotiated at a later date, Comeau said.

The school committee also elected Nanette Mills to fill the position of English teacher for the high school, vacated by the retirement of Richard Sullivan.

Committee members voted to approve the school calendar for 2004-2005, setting a tentative graduation date for June 3, 2005.

The regular March school committee meeting was changed to March 9 to avoid a conflict with the Island Falls annual town meeting.

The policy and finance committee will meet at 6 p.m., followed by the regular school committee meeting at 7 p.m.
