STACYVILLE – Krystle McMoarn nailed eight of nine free throws and Brandi Violette had five of six to slide the No. 8 Katahdin Cougars past the No. 9 Greenville Lakers 48-44 during a Class D schoolgirl basketball prelim Tuesday night.

Katahdin had trailed for three quarters.

Violette ended with 20 points, including five 3-point baskets. McMoarn finished with 10 points.

Beth Bartley scored 24 points for the Lakers, and Hannah Breton added 14.

Houlton-Hodgdon (11-6) jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the game’s first four minutes, as Grady Anderson scored on assists from Tyler Hutchinson and Mitch Hall and Hall scored on assists from Hutchinson and Anderson.

Presque Isle (8-8) tied the game as Trevor Graves scored on assists from Ben Sirois and Sam Shaw late in the first period and Micah Cartin scored on an Andy Clark assist 13 seconds into the second period.

Houlton-Hodgdon goalie Nic Joslyn made 36 saves on 38 shots, while PI’s Bryan Fowler made 26 saves on 29 shots.

Orono 4, John Bapst 2

At Sawyer Arena in Bangor, Dylan Huckestein knocked in three goals to power the Red Riots past the Crusaders.

Derek Smith chipped in with one goal and one assist for 14-3 Orono. Jacob Roeder, Tony Raymond, John Tuell and Joe Smyth each added an assist. Keith Hedrick made 20 saves on 22 shots.

Zach Greenier scored both goals for the 6-12 Crusaders of Bangor. David Sawyer had two assists and Brian Leighton had one. Dan Leighton stopped 34 of 38 shots.

At Brunswick, Ralph Mims nailed seven 3-pointers and finished with 35 points as the Dragons tamed the Tigers.

Mims also had eight assists and five steals for the winners and Jesse Kaplin put in nine points.

Sean McNally netted 17 for the Tigers.
