Six basketball players from Maine have earned state championships in the Maine Elks Association’s annual State Hoop Shoot. Eighteen lodge and district winners competed in the state finals at Brewer High School and earned the right to compete in the regionals March 26-28 in Nashua, N.H.
Maine winners were, ages 8-9: Katie Henrikson of Bath (18 of 25) and Tyler Small of Surry (18 of 25); ages 10-11: Jessica Swanson of Trenton (18 of 25) and Dustin James of Farmington (20 of 25); ages 12-13: Erin Murphy of Westbrook (20 of 25) and Jeremy Tarr of Ashland (24 of 25).
Murphy earned the Allen W. Richard Outstanding Shooter Award, while Tarr earned the Amos A. McCallum Outstanding Shooter Award for their top efforts.
