SKOWHEGAN – Carlee Evans won two events outright and took the all-around title, leading the Skowhegan gymnastics team to the state championship at the high school title meet Saturday.
The Indians scored 159.625 points for their first state crown since 2002. Biddeford, the 2003 champion, was second with 156.600 points and Kennebunk’s 153.450 was good enough for third.
Noble of North Berwick (148.500) was fourth, Mountain Valley of Rumford (119.850) was fifth and Old Town (92.450) was sixth.
Evans racked up 35.650 points in the all-around competition, in which she was fourth last year. She won the balance beam with a score of 9.0, took the floor exercise event with a 9.35, and tied with three others in the vault with an 8.9, and was fourth in the uneven parallel bars with an 8.4.
Biddeford’s Roxanne Deschaies was second with 35.200 points and Chelsea Buck of Jay came in third with 35.000 points.
Jillian Cole backed up Evans with a tie for fifth in the all- around.
The rest of the Skowhegan team was made up of Carlee Evans’ sister Delani, Ashlee Nickerson, Jade Trade, Amanda Clark, and Patricia Keister. The Indians were first in the bars, beam and floor and second in the vault.
Laura MacKinnon, an independent gymnast from Camden Hills, was eighth in the all-around with 31.750 points.
Rachel Bay was Old Town’s top finisher in the all-around with 26.850 points for 26th place.
York’s Sidney Blum was first in the bars and tied with Carlee Evans and Deschaies in the vaulting competition.
