ORONO – Meagan Aarts and Karen Droog each scored goals Saturday afternoon as the University of Maine women’s hockey team earned a 2-2 Hockey East overtime tie against ninth-ranked New Hampshire at Alfond Arena.

Lara Smart made 26 saves on 28 shots for the 8-13-4 Black Bears.

Shannon Clement and Sadie Wright-Ward netted goals for the 15-8-4 Wildcats. Melissa Bourdon logged 30 saves on 32 shots.

Aarts tipped in Tristan Desmet’s centering pass at the 14:42 mark of the first period on the power play for Maine, but UNH’s Shannon Clement tied it with a power-play goal at the 18:43 mark of the second period.

Droog put Maine back in the lead with her short-handed goal at the 12:35 mark of the third period, but UNH converted on Wright-Ward’s power-play goal with just 1:54 left in regulation.
