A “country girl” who likes outdoor activities, 13-year-old Patti excels at archery, ice fishing, in-line skating and horseback riding.
Patti needs to stay active and enjoys helping with barn chores. She has a natural gift with animals, as seen by her ability to train rabbits and chickens to walk on a leash.
One of Patti’s new talents is crocheting, which she has used to make hats for children with cancer. Patti also enjoys swimming in the pool, downhill skiing and tending to her small vegetable garden. She has developed an interest in scrapbooking and also enjoys listening to country music.
Patti feels that she should be perfect all of the time. These feelings have created anxiety for her, as have transitions. Patti has been working on these anxieties and is making progress.
Patti has been in her current placement since April 2000. She responds well to positive reinforcement, and needs consistency and predictability in a home environment. Patti also needs additional nurturing.
Patti receives special education services at school. Although she has learning disabilities and struggles with academics, she has worked hard and has made gains in all areas.
The ideal family for Patti must be patient, structured and have a predictable routine. Patti’s parents must provide clear limits with consequences for behaviors. A family that has experience working with children with special needs would be beneficial for Patti. A two-parent or single-female family would be considered.
Patti should be the only child or youngest child in a family because of her need for individual attention during her transition into a new home. Patti would love to live in a rural area, especially on a farm where she can continue to work with horses and other farm animals. She also would like to maintain some level of contact with her two biological sisters.
