NEWRY – Police were investigating the death of a 38-year-old Falmouth woman involved in a collision while skiing at Sunday River ski resort.

The victim was Jane McCormack, a second-grade teacher at Reiche School in Portland.

Sunday River spokesman Jim Costello said McCormack collided with a teenage boy from Massachusetts while skiing an advanced trail at about 12:30 p.m. Thursday. She was flown by helicopter to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston, where she died Thursday night.

Costello said neither skier was wearing a helmet, and that McCormack appeared to suffer head injuries. The boy was not seriously injured.

Officials with the Oxford County Sheriff’s Department were investigating. It was the first skiing death at Sunday River in more than three years, Costello said.
