‘Out of control’ Brewer teen arrested at home

Brewer police arrested a teenager after he allegedly threatened family members and damaged property Monday afternoon.

Sgt. Jason Moffitt said that at about 5 p.m. he and Officer Nelson Feero went to a Rinfret Drive address where a juvenile was “out of control.”

Moffitt said he learned that the 17-year-old boy had become enraged, broken a hole in an interior door and brandished an antique chair near his family members. Moffitt said the boy then broke the chair.

The boy was arrested and charged with criminal mischief and criminal threatening. He later was released into the custody of other relatives.

A German shepherd dog that foamed at the mouth and pursued a woman and child through their house was taken into custody Monday night in Orrington.

The incident occurred at about 9 p.m. in a house on River Road. According to Deputy Kurt Adams of the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Department, the dog started convulsing, foaming at the mouth, and barking, and chased the family into the next room. Animal control officer Darcy Carson came and took the dog and will take it to a veterinarian Tuesday.

Adams said rabies does not appear to be involved and the dog did not bite or growl at anybody.

Brewer police summoned a woman Monday afternoon after she accused another woman of stealing her cat.

Officer Rodney Gerald reported that at about 3:30 p.m. he went to a State Street address for a harassment complaint. A woman at that address told Gerald that Sylvia Chase, 64, of Brewer came onto her property and told her that she had raised terrible children.

The complainant said Chase also accused her of stealing her cat, and said she was going to take it back.

Gerald said Chase already had been issued a protection from harassment order forbidding her contact with the complainant and had been summoned for violating it in the past. When he reminded Chase of the order, he said, she denied knowing about it. He summoned her again.

Brewer police arrested a Dedham man Monday evening after he allegedly tried to steal beer and other goods from a service station.

Sgt. Jason Moffitt said that at about 6:15 p.m. he went to Cowan’s Service Station on South Main Street for a theft complaint. Employees at the store told Moffitt that Scott Smith, 35, of Dedham came into the store, bought a beer, then asked the clerk for a job application.

When the clerk went out back, employees said, Smith started putting items into his pockets, including a beer and snacks. When the employees confronted Smith, they said, he tried to leave and denied stealing.

Moffitt arrested Smith, who still had the merchandise in his pocket. Moffitt said he also found Ritalin tablets in Smith’s possession. Smith was charged with theft and possession of scheduled drugs.
