AUGUSTA – College students are invited to apply for summer internships at Maine state agencies through a program sponsored by the Margaret Chase Center for Public Policy at the University of Maine.

Positions are open to college students who are enrolled in schools in Maine, or Maine residents enrolled in schools out of state, and who have completed at least two full years of college.

Since the program was established in 1967, more than 1,300 students have been placed in summer internship positions.

The paid internship program provides students with an opportunity to gain work and educational experience within the fields and departments of state government.

“This program is a fantastic opportunity for college students to get some valuable hands-on work experience in a job field they are interested in,” said state Sen. Stephen S. Stanley, D-Penobscot County, of Medway.

The deadline for student applications is March 22, 2004. Application forms and information can be obtained at placement offices at all Maine colleges and universities or by contacting the Margaret Chase Smith Center for Public Policy at the University of Maine, (207) 581-1648, or online at www.umaine.edu/mcsc/mesgip.htm
