BREWER – A $1,000 grant from International Paper company has made it possible for Brewer Library to implement the first annual Family Read-aloud program, which begins March 1 and ends April 1. The program is designed for children to read aloud to their parents, or for parents to read aloud to children.

A special feature of the program will be a performance by Double Vision at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 4, at Brewer Auditorium. Double Vision of Northfield, Mass., perform comedy, juggling and mime.

Participating families who read aloud for three 30-minute sessions each week during March may choose any reading material they find of interest. Each family will be given a folder, with their photo on the front, where they will register their favorite books; and a March calendar and stickers for marking the days they read aloud.

Families will receive a free paperback book for each week with 90 minutes of reading. Those who read 10 full hours will receive a Borders gift certificate. In addition, there will be weekly drawings for prizes.

To learn more about the Family Read-aloud program, call Brewer Public Library at 989-7943.
