Driver with suspended license arrested

Brewer police arrested a Portland man Friday afternoon after an off-duty officer recognized him driving with a suspended license.

Officer Paul Gauvin said that Cpl. David Lord, who was off duty, was in his car at about 2:30 p.m. when he recognized another driver as Richard Duncan, 23, of Portland. Lord knew that Duncan, who used to live in Brewer, had a suspended license.

Lord followed Duncan for a few miles, Gauvin said, even though Duncan apparently tried to shake him off by driving faster. Lord called the station and informed Gauvin of his location, which was well out of town on Eastern Avenue.

Gauvin said Lord also saw Duncan and his female passenger switch seats. When Gauvin finally stopped their car, he arrested Duncan and charged him with violation of probation, operating after suspension and possessing a suspended license. Duncan allegedly said he didn’t know his license had been suspended.

An Alton man’s car was allegedly stolen from a Husson College parking lot Thursday night.

Bangor police Officer Ron Hutchings reported that at about 12:30 a.m. Friday, an Alton man told him his white 2000 Hyundai Accent had been stolen. The man said he had parked the locked car near Carlisle Hall on the Husson College campus at about 10:30 p.m. The man said he had the only key.

The car had a “New England School of Communications” sticker in the rear window.
