The Bangor Lumberjacks released veteran outfielder Lorenzo de la Cruz, the Northeast League club announced. He has one year left in his contract.

Signed to a new deal prior to the 2003 season, de la Cruz had a disappointing year, batting .256 with eight home runs and 49 RBI. Last year saw a dropoff in production for the outfielder/designated hitter from his MVP season in 2002, when he hit .367 with 15 homers and 75 RBI for the Lumberjacks.

De la Cruz’s release means that the Lumberjacks do not have any veterans currently listed on their roster. Veteran outfielder Juan LeBron was released earlier this month, and pitchers Chris Clark and Kevin Pincavitch, were also let go. Pincavitch will retain his role as pitching coach for the Lumberjacks in 2004.
