CARRABASSET VALLEY – Nils Koons of Sidney finished fourth in the 5-kilometer freestyle and fifth in the 5K classic race during Saturday’s Banknorth Eastern J2 cross-country ski championships. Koons has already qualified for the New England Junior Olympic team.
Koons teamed with Mandy Ivey of Oxford to lead Maine to a fourth-place finish at the three-day event for skiers ages 14 and 15. Ivey was ninth in the classic event. The other members of the team were Dinesh Costlon of Auburn and Elise Moody-Roberts of Cape Elizabeth. The Vermont 1 team finished first overall.
