A teenager from Unity was arrested on a charge of operating under the influence early Saturday morning after police found his car stopped on Interstate 95 south near the Kenduskeag Stream.

Bangor police Officer Lewis Woolley called for backup to slow traffic before he approached the vehicle. The officer found two males inside, either sleeping or passed out, his report said.

Woolley knocked on the window to wake the two, but got no response. When the officer opened the door, he noticed a strong smell of alcohol, the report said.

Woolley yelled several times at the driver and shook him before he finally woke up. His report said the man “could only be described as bewildered.”

After pulling the vehicle into the breakdown lane, the officer took the driver, John Derosby, 19, to his cruiser. Derosby said he had “been driving all day,” but didn’t know where he was, the report said.

Woolley asked Derosby whether he had been drinking, and the man said he had not. The officer twice asked Derosby to recite the alphabet, and twice the man instead spelled his name, the report said.

The officer took Derosby to the police station, where his blood alcohol level tested at more than two times the legal limit.

Derosby was issued a summons for operating under the influence. The car was towed. Woolley’s report did not say what happened to the vehicle’s other occupant.

Bangor police officers were looking for trespassers who reportedly used maintenance equipment and left beer cans at Bangor Municipal Golf Course Sunday morning.

Officer Michael Brennan responded to a call that the maintenance building at the golf course was “unsecured,” his report said.

Brennan arrived to find several beer cans and bottles strewn near the building. He also noted in his report that a tractor had been driven from the garage and the bucket on the tractor had been lowered, apparently to damage a portable toilet.

Seeing no sign of forced entry, Brennan concluded the garage had been opened by a key, his report said. Nothing had been damaged or stolen.

Brennan took the beer cans into evidence and planned to have them dusted for fingerprints, his report said.

A 21-year-old man was arrested early Saturday morning on charges of driving while intoxicated after he was stopped for driving with both headlights inoperable.

Bangor Officer David Bushey pulled over Joshua Peabody at 2:26 a.m. and noticed the driver was “very emotional,” the report said.

Peabody told Bushey, “I didn’t do anything wrong,” and started weeping when he couldn’t produce vehicle registration and insurance, the officer said.

Bushey found that Peabody’s license was suspended in Maine. Peabody told the officer he had not been drinking, but Bushey could smell alcohol. The man performed poorly on field sobriety tests, the officer said.

Bushey arrested the man for operating after suspension and driving while intoxicated and took him to Penobscot County Jail. The officer’s report said Peabody had a blood alcohol level more than two times the legal limit.
