Brewer police are investigating a string of car burglaries that occurred early Tuesday morning.
Officer Rodney Gerald said 16 vehicles were broken into between midnight and about 6 a.m. from Silk Street down North Main Street to the Eddington town line.
All of the cars’ glove compartments had been rummaged. Loose change, cell phones and chargers, and compact discs were the most commonly stolen items in these burglaries, Gerald said.
A green 2000 Toyota Tacoma pickup truck was also stolen from the Silk Street area, Gerald said.
Most of the cars were parked in dark places, and while most of the owners believed they locked their doors, many weren’t sure. Gerald said there was no sign of forced entry. No witnesses have yet come forward.
Anybody with information about these crimes is asked to call the Brewer Police Department at 989-7001. Brewer police are also reminding residents to lock their car doors.

Bangor police are looking for a man who allegedly beat up his girlfriend early Tuesday.
Officer James Hassard reported that at about 3 a.m. he went to a First Street residence for a fight complaint, in which a woman had been injured, and the man had left. When Hassard arrived, a woman holding the back of her head opened the door.
Emergency medical personnel confirmed that there was a bump on the woman’s head. She refused treatment.
The woman said she had come home from some errands, and her boyfriend, James Combs, 43, arrived a bit later. He began asking her why she went out.
The woman said Combs started pushing her around and slammed her head into a metal bedpost. She said he also slapped the side of her head, kicked her in the side and spat in her face.
She fought her way to the phone. Combs allegedly threatened to kill the woman if she called the police. He left when she dialed 911.
Officer Hassard noted that the woman appeared to be intoxicated. She also admitted she had been drinking.
Hassard determined that there was probable cause to arrest Combs for domestic assault.

Pelletier summoned Brinkley. The products were valued at $44.
