A 75-year-old Bangor man was arrested Tuesday afternoon after he allegedly tried to sexually assault a woman.
Bangor police Officer Dan Herrick reported that at about 4:45 p.m. a woman came to the station. She told him she went to the Court Street address of Kenneth McLeod, 75, to collect $300 he owed her because of a court order.
When she arrived she found McLeod outside. He said he had the money inside, but when she followed him in, he allegedly forced her into the basement and asked her for sex, giving her a $20 bill. The woman told Herrick that she refused, but McLeod then tried to sexually assault her. She fled and went to the police station.
Officer Herrick said he went to McLeod’s apartment and asked to speak to him in the cruiser, explaining that McLeod was not under arrest. McLeod allegedly told Herrick that the woman had initially agreed to have sex, and that everything that happened was consensual. Herrick summoned McLeod for assault.
At the station, Herrick learned that the “court order” the woman had mentioned was actually a protection from abuse order, which also required McLeod to pay the woman $300. Herrick returned to McLeod’s apartment and arrested him, charging him with violating a protection from abuse order.
Masked visitors to a Levant home eluded police Tuesday night.
Maine State Police Trooper Paul White said that at about midnight, a Horseback Road woman called police saying two people in masks had just tried to get into her house. She said she heard a loud noise and went to the door, finding the strangers on her porch.
They had tried to open the locked screen door, and appeared surprised when the woman appeared. They told her to open the door. She told them to leave, and turned to tell her friend to call 911. When she turned around again, the strangers were gone.
Trooper White said he and Trooper David Yankowsky arrived shortly after, but found no sign of the strangers. There was only minor damage to the screen door. White said no weapons were seen. The case is still under investigation.
