KISSIMMEE, Fla. – The University of Maine softball team swept two games today during the third day of its southern swing. In Wednesday’s first game, Maine defeated Eastern Tennessee State 1-0. In the second, the Black Bears shut out Furman 5-0.
In the first game, sophomore Sarah Bennis picked up the win against Eastern Tennessee State and is now 1-1 on the season. Junior Jess Brady led off the seventh inning with a triple and scored on a sacrifice fly by pinch-hitter sophomore Amy Kuhl. Sophomore Molly McKinney went 3 for 3 on the day with three singles and senior Nicole Taylor singled.
In the second game, senior Cadace Jaegge took the win and is now 3-0 and Junior Jenna Merchant picked up the save. Sophomore Meagan Ramos had two RBI singles, while freshman Kristie Hawkins hit an RBI single.
