FREDERICTON, New Brunswick – Kings Landing Historical Settlement is participating in the Destination Maine, Maritimes and More Travel and Tourism Show today at the Bangor Mall. For the third time in the show’s five-year history, Kings Landing will partner with Fredericton Tourism in promoting their New Brunswick destination.

Kings Landing Historical Settlement is a living history museum 20 minutes west of Fredericton, New Brunswick’s capital city. A re-creation of life in an 1800s village, Kings Landing is nestled in the St. John River Valley and depicts the transformation of a young colony into a vibrant nation. Costumed staff living and working in the homes, farms, shops and factories bring more than 100 years of history to life.

“We consider the residents of Maine to be our neighbors, our friends,” Kings Landing’s general manager, Alida Visbach, said. “We share many aspects of our history and there are still many family connections between New Brunswick and Maine. Kings Landing presents a great location for residents of both places to explore their past.”

This weekend at the show, Kings Landing and Fredericton Tourism will feature information on the tourist season and what is being planned for the summer. The show comes at a time of year when many people are beginning to plan their summer vacations.

This summer, Kings Landing celebrates its 30th anniversary. Activities, entertainment and festivities throughout the site mark this milestone. One event will take place July 17-18, exploring the Maine-New Brunswick Border Dispute of the late 1830s. During this re-enactment, costumed staff will portray British soldiers stationed on the bridge within the village, and village residents will discuss the dispute with Maine over the location of the border. Visitors are encouraged to voice their opinion to the census takers, and then can watch as American Gen. Winfield Scott and Lt. Gov. John Harvey struggle to find a resolution. Visitors can become active in the issues of the past and find out what really happened.
