A Hermon man accused of assaulting the 14-year-old daughter of his live-in girlfriend was arrested Friday after he allegedly left the scene of the assault intoxicated and drove his pickup truck through a stop sign into a ditch.
Ricky Michaud, 43, was charged with assault, operating under the influence and violation of a license restriction. He also could face federal charges, Penobscot County Sheriff Sean McHugh said, for possession of firearms found at the residence.
Michaud has a prior domestic assault conviction against the same girl, McHugh said, a charge that prohibits him from owning guns.
Sheriff’s Deputy Doug Castiglia went to the scene of a reported family fight at Finch Lane shortly before 9 p.m. Friday. However, when Castiglia arrived, Michaud already had left. The sheriff said the 14-year-old girl suffered minor injuries, but wasn’t treated.
The Penobscot County Sheriff’s Department got another call that a gold-colored pickup matching the description of the one Michaud was driving had gone off the road. McHugh said Michaud had driven his vehicle straight through the intersection of New Boston Road and Route 2.
McHugh said that when he arrived, another officer was helping Michaud from the vehicle. McHugh said Michaud twice fell “flat on his back” and admitted to drinking five beers. Michaud suffered a cut above his eye and an ambulance arrived to take him to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor.
McHugh said Michaud resisted and had to be restrained on the way to the hospital. The man had three stitches to repair the cut above his eye and McHugh noticed a blue substance in his nose, later identified as Percocet, a prescription narcotic.
Michaud’s license had a Q restriction, McHugh said, which prohibited him from driving with any trace of alcohol in his system.

Two Bangor teenagers were arrested early Saturday morning for reportedly burglarizing a number of vehicles in the area of West Broadway and Mount View Avenue.
Bangor police Officer David Bushey answered a call from a person who saw two males approach several cars on Silver Road to see if they were unlocked, the officer’s report said.
Officer Eric Tourtelotte also went to the area and had detained two males near Mount View Avenue and Seventh Street. Bushey asked the witness if he could identify the suspects and he said he could.
Bushey brought the witness to Tourtelotte, who had recovered several items from the two suspects. The witness positively identified the two teenagers, who were placed under arrest.
One, a juvenile whose name was not released, was cooperative, Bushey said. The other, Phillip Smith, 19, was visibly intoxicated, according to Bushey, and became abusive toward the officers, spitting at them and kicking at them several times.
Bushey placed Smith in hand and leg restraints and took him to Penobscot County Jail. The juvenile was taken to the Bangor Police Department and released to his father’s custody.
Officers Bushey and Tourtelotte returned to the area where the vehicles were burglarized and made attempts to contact the vehicles’ owners.
