FORT MYERS, Fla. – Kahler Dowling gave up five hits and one earned run while allowing no walks and striking out nine to lead St. Joseph’s College of Standish to a 2-1 softball win over Eastern Nazarene in its second game Monday. U.S. Merchant Marine defeated the Monks 5-1 in the first game.
In the opener, Sandra Short pitched seven innings and gave up one run, five hits, two walks while striking out 10 for the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy. Andrea Carey had a triple and single and two RBIs, and Jena Jeffries had a pair of singles and knocked in two runs.
Helene Liaci singled to drive in a run and Ashley Burton singled twice for the Monks.
In the second game, Liaci hit an RBI triple and later scored to lead St. Joseph’s to the win. Dee Regan, Deborah Bain, and Jamie Morrison each singled.
Jocelyn Darcy hit a double and scored a run for Eastern Nazarene.

At Clearwater, Fla., Monmouth swept the Monks of Standish 4-1 and 5-2.
In the first fame, Steve Turner hit two singles and knocked in a run to lead Monmouth. Alan Betourne added a pair of singles.
Shane Corcoran doubled for the Monks and Matt Prunier notched an RBI single..
In the second game, Josh Hall hit a two-run double for Monmouth while Thad King and Betourne each chipped in with two singles.
Ben Muniz slammed a two-run home run for the Monks.
