Rival BU trips up UMaine Black Bears now 6-9

TAMPA, Fla. – The Boston University Terriers scored three runs in the bottom of the third to pull away for an 8-3 non-conference softball win over the Maine Black Bears Tuesday.

Senior Candace Jaegge took the loss, going just 2 2/3 innings, allowing seven runs off seven hits and five walks. Jaegge is now 4-3.

Sophomore Molly McKinney and junior Shannon Sirois each had RBI singles in the third inning for Maine.

Brittany Cheney chipped in with a double and single for the Black Bears and Lauren Dulkis singled twice.

Maine wraps up play in Tampa today with games against Northern Illinois and Temple. The Black Bears open at home with a series against Binghamton April 9-10.

St. Joseph’s drops three

At Fort Myers, Fla., Dee Regan went 3-for-3, all singles, for Saint Joseph’s College of Standish in a 1-0 loss to Curry College in the third game of the day.

Alfred College beat the Monks 2-00 in the first game and Clark University took the second game 6-0 over the Monks.

In the first game, Brittany Curran gave up just one hit and no walks while striking out six in seven innings to give Alfred the win.

Allyson Ferguson singled for St. Joseph’s College’s only hit.

In the second game, Lauren Ackein drove in two runs on a pair of singles for Clark.

Jamie Morrison hit two singles for the Monks and Amanda Roy also singled.

In the third game, Jamie Goldman tripled for Curry College and Denise Surran and Katie Darragh each had two singles.

Ferguson singled for Saint Joseph’s.

MMA loses two

At Fort Pierce, Fla., Davis & Elkins College of Elkins, W. Va., recorded 3-2 and 12-3 victories over the Maine Maritime Academy Mariners of Castine.

Maygan Hardison and Sarah Soper each notched a single and an RBI for the Mariners in the first game while Abbi Darling added a single and two RBIs in the second game and Jessica Clifford doubled.
