HARRINGTON – Residents faced with approving three ordinances at the annual town meeting Monday tabled them for at least a month so they could be better informed when they vote on them.

A few said that they hadn’t received proper notice of the proposed ordinances. They moved to table any vote until a special town meeting can be called.

“We will set that special town meeting in another month’s time to consider these again, plus whatever else comes up,” Town Clerk Peter Wass said.

One of the ordinances tackled subdivisions. The others addressed the board of appeals and the board of assessment review.

In other business during the town meeting at Narraguagus High School, most everything in the warrant passed as presented, except for the salary of the treasurer. One selectman moved to reduce it from $2,000 to zero, another selectman seconded that, and the amendment to pay the treasurer zero passed.

Wass is the treasurer as well as the town clerk, administrative assistant to the Board of Selectmen and the registrar of voters. He receives a $30,000 salary as the clerk for a 28-hour week.

In elections, the 55 residents present re-elected Daren Hammond to his unchallenged position as a selectman.

Charles Peterson was re-elected to a two-year term on the SAD 37 board. But Douglas Dowling, who has been on the board for six of the past seven years, lost his three-year position to Leslie McSorley after nominations from the floor.
