NEW SMYRNA BEACH, Fla. – Greg Creek of Chelsea went 3-for-4 and knocked in a run as the University of Maine baseball team defeated Cortland (N.Y.) State 4-3 Thursday.
Ryan Harris faced 21 hitters and gave up five hits and two runs while striking out six in six innings of work for the Black Bears, who improved to 5-6. Greg Norton of South Portland earned the save with a 1-2-3 ninth.
Mike Ferriggi, Matt McGraw, and Ross Cantara of Biddeford each went 2-for-3 for the winners.
Husson 11, Wentworth 3
At Clearwater, Fla., Barrett Dionne and Chris Sargent combined on an eight-hitter and two-run singles by Josh Ferguson and George Tripp keyed a five-run third inning that led Husson College past the Wentworth Institute of Technology (Mass.).
Dionne pitched five innings of three-hit, two-run ball, striking out four, walking three and hitting two batters, before Sargent finished up with four innings of five-hit, one-run ball.
Sargent fanned five and didn’t walk anybody.
Ferguson drove in three runs with a pair of singles; Justin Spencer tripled and singled and knocked in a run; Tripp had two singles and two RBIs and Billy Kane had an RBI double in the third.
Scott Wentworth had two base hits for the Leopards.

Monks win one, lose one
At Cape Coral, Fla., the St. Joseph’s Monks beat Emmanual 9-4 in the second game after falling to St. Ambrose 7-6.
In the second game, Kahler Dowling pitched a complete game and went 2-for-4 with three RBIs. Deborah Bain and Helene Liaci each drove in a pair for the Monks of Standish.
In the opener, Mae Freyermuth knocked in three runs and Emily Cuneo two to power St. Ambrose.
Liaci went 4-for-4 and drove in all six of the Monks’ runs.
