NEW SMYRNA BEACH, Fla. – Pinch runner Greg Norton scored the winning run in the 11th inning as the University of Maine baseball team defeated Cortland (N.Y.) 3-2 Friday afternoon.
The win was the Black Bears’ fourth straight and evens their record at 6-6. Maine plays single games against Iowa at 1 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. Sunday to complete its Florida trip.
Greg Creek and Ryan Quintal posted a pair of hits and an RBI each, and Matt McGraw rapped four hits in five at-bats.
Jamie Gratello picked up the win with two innings of relief work, giving up only one hit. Starter Troy Martin gave up two runs on five hits in six innings, and Ryan Brown pitched the other three innings, allowing only a single hit.
Arcadia 2, Husson 1
At Tampa, Fla., sacrifice flies by Brandon Mazzie and John Connell backed the three-hit pitching of Tyler Pennepacker and Ryan Windt as Arcadia University (Pa.) nipped Husson.
A hit batsman, two walks, and Mazzie’s sacrifice fly made it 1-0 in the first and Anthony Ragona singled, stole second, and eventually scored on Connell’s sacrifice fly in the third.
Husson scored in the seventh when Aaron Brideau singled and eventually scored on an error.
Husson stranded nine.
Brideau and Chris McInnis combined on a four-hitter for Husson.

Husson drops two
At Fort Pierce, Fla., the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford swept the Husson Braves of Bangor 8-3 and 12-4 in a doubleheader.
Nicole Manzo had two hits for the Braves in the first game, and Jordan Legassey recorded two hits in the second game.
