TOWNSHIP 31 – A Marshfield man was killed Friday morning on Route 9 when his pickup truck crossed the centerline and collided with an oncoming tractor-trailer.

Joshua Hanscom, 28, died instantly, according to Miles Carpenter, the investigating officer with Maine State Police.

The accident occurred in light snow at 6:45 a.m. near Wesley, about five miles west of the intersection of Routes 9 and 192.

Arthur Goodwin, the Canadian driver of the larger truck, was not hurt.

“He was fine; he walked away,” Carpenter said. “But he was devastated.”

Goodwin, 39, was driving his empty truck east, back to his home in Sackville, New Brunswick, after delivering goods to southern Maine.

Hanscom was westbound when he lost control of his 2000 Ford 250 pickup on the slippery road.

Maine State Police handled the accident, which was not cleared until 11:30 a.m. Maine State Police Troopers Carpenter, Alden Bustard, Chris Hashey, Chuck Matthews and Tim McFadden and Sgt. Kelly Barbee responded to the scene.
