Observers agree it is nearly impossible to overstate MBNA’s impact on the midcoast and Maine economy:

. Thousands of new paychecks and the spinoff jobs they create.

. More than $100 million in infrastructure investment.

. Drawing in new workers from out of state, many of whom stayed.

. Philanthropy that may total more than $30 million to YMCAs, opera houses, hospitals, schools, museums and various nonprofits;

. $12 million in grants to schools and teachers and library programs and for historic preservation.

. $10 million in college scholarships to 621 students.
