Acadia National Park will sponsor a 72-hour Wilderness First Responder course during the week of April 18-26.

The backcountry medical training course will show students how to deal with medical emergencies when they are miles from help and dialing 911 is not an option.

The course will combine lectures with activities such as learning how to build a stretcher outside.

A number of realistic simulations involving severe wounds and bleeding also will be conducted.

Graduates will be certified by Wilderness Medical Associates.

More information about the course curriculum and cost is available by calling Ed Pontbriand at 963-2401, Ext. 814, or Wilderness Medical Associates at 888-WILD-MED.

Registration must be completed by March 18.
