AUGUSTA – Accused killer Edward Hackett is expected to plead guilty Friday to the murder of Colby College senior Dawn Rossignol of Medway last September.
Hackett, 47, is expected in Kennebec County Superior Court at 9 a.m. Friday, court officials confirmed. He originally pleaded not guilty last November to charges of murder, kidnapping, aggravated assault, unlawful sexual contact, robbery and theft.
Deputy Attorney General William Stokes also announced that his office would be prepared to go forward with Hackett’s sentencing at that hearing.
Hackett could receive 25 years to life in prison with no chance of probation.
It is unknown whether the Rossignol family will address the judge during the sentencing.
Hackett is accused of kidnapping Rossignol, 21, from a Colby College parking area and beating her to death. Her body was discovered near a stream in Oakland, a short distance from the campus. DNA discovered in Rossignol’s car was used to arrest Hackett.
Hackett had recently had his parole from Utah transferred to Maine. He had been convicted of kidnapping and robbery in Utah. He also has previous convictions in Connecticut.
