DUNEDIN, Fla. – Kyle Mathieu hit a single up the middle in the bottom of the ninth inning to drive in Adam Sheehan to give Husson College a 5-4 baseball victory Friday night over Ripon College in the Clearwater Invitational.
Justin Spencer hit a bases-clearing triple to tie the game for the Braves of Bangor in the fifth inning.
The win was Husson coach John Winkin’s 950th career victory.
Kyle McFarlane had three singles and scored a run for Ripon of Wisconsin.

At Gulfport, Fla., Mike Morgan hit a three-run home run in the bottom of the 10th inning to lift Salem State past Husson in a morning contest.
Steve Estes hit a three-run homer in the fifth inning for Husson, Jason Folsom rapped a trio of singles, and Josh Ferguson hit two singles.

At Tampa, Fla., Joe McGhee belted a two-run homer in the seventh inning to help the University of Southern Maine gain the tie against Wheaton College. The game was called after the ninth inning because of darkness.
Freshman Ryan Bourque hit an inside-the-park home run in the fourth inning for the Huskies, and Nick Vadaro had three singles.
Joe Ambrosini sparked a five-run eighth for Wheaton with a two-run double.

Southern Maine wins two
At Fort Myers, Fla., Kristen Tong had a pair of doubles and drove in two runs in the University of Southern Maine’s 9-0 win over Trinity College. The Huskies took the second game 6-1 over SUNY-Oneonta.
In the first game, Natasha Jackson added an RBI single for the Huskies.
Stacy Hills hit a pair of singles for Trinity.
In the second game, Jessie Becher hit a two-run single in the second inning and also doubled for Southern Maine. Kari Vance and Katie Mainville combined to allowed only two hits and no earned runs.

UMaine softball games canceled
The University of Maine softball team’s weekend doubleheaders have been canceled because of bad weather.
The Black Bears were to play Hofstra and Rhode Island twice each in the Hofstra Invitational Softball Tournament in Hempstead, N.Y.
The UMaine softball team will return to action April 1 with a doubleheader against the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, Mass.
